Powell sees «transitory» economic impact in the US from omicron variant

Jan 11 (Reuters) – Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said on Tuesday he expects only a «temporary» impact on employment and economic growth from the omicron variant, the rapid spread of which has led to coronavirus infections in states. United and around the world at record levels this month.

Powell, responding to a question during his renomination hearing before the Senate Banking Committee, stated that there may be a hiatus in hiring and growth in the short term due to omicron, but «it should be transitory,» and in the coming quarters the outlook could be «very positive» as infections decline.
