New York, May 14 (EFE) .- At least seven people died this Saturday in a shooting that occurred in a supermarket in the US city of Buffalo (New York), reported the CNBC4 television channel, citing police sources.
According to the city’s Police Department, the event took place in the Tops supermarket, near the center of Buffalo, a city located in the extreme north of the state of New York.
In the absence of official figures, the local media The Buffalo News, for its part, raises the number of fatalities to 10.
According to this newspaper, there are three other people injured, two of them in serious condition.
«Several people have been hit by gunshots. The shooter is in custody,» police wrote in a Twitter message without offering further details.
According to the CNBC4 channel, which cites three agents, the attacker entered the supermarket, located on Jefferson Avenue, a little after 2:30 p.m. local time (6:30 p.m. GMT) and shot at least eight people, seven of whom died and another is in critical condition.
Some sources indicated that the shooter was dressed in military-style clothing and, according to the channel, it is being investigated whether the attack was motivated by white supremacist ideology.
The governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, wrote a tweet shortly after the event was known, in which she assured that she was closely following what happened and that she had offered support to local forces.
According to a witness quoted by channel ABC7, between 20 and 30 shots were heard.
