With a balance of 19 victories and 36 defeats (seven in overtime) the Devils ended seventh in their eastern division, 13 points behind the sixth (6th) and with similar sensations to those of the previous season. Once again, the pieces that had to give the chest, became small and could not help everything that the team needed to get victories.

After throwing at the feet of the horses Jack Hughes in its first season, this previous year the middle of the family knew redeem part of failure in your year rookie and left quality sparkles in which one can put faith for the future. Ruff had just come from seeking glory in Dallas and couldn’t figure out the strategy for the new Devils, but details of Zacha, Own Hughes, Sharangovich, Bratt or Kuokkanen demonstrate that the staff had young talent to protect. Luckily for him and the team, Fitzgerald has bet hard on this offseason and it has been done with the services of Ryan Graves, Dougie hamilton and Tomas Tatar among others to offset the future of the locker room with players from immediate performance to try to sneak into the top positions of the Metropolitan Division.

Goal

The Devils’ trio of goalkeepers will be 100% Canadian. The signing of Bernier underpins a goal more than covered. The 2020/21 season has been the confirmation of what already seemed a reality: Mackenzie blackwood it’s a strong candidate to be elite among the goalkeepers of the League. Although he has made his worst records since he arrived in the league in 2018, with three goals conceded per game with a .903% saves and a single blank finish.

Scott wedgewood has been the back-up of Blackwood with numbers similar to the headline and with two shootouts. Numbers that give confidence for the relay of his partner whenever necessary. Besides this free agency has arrived Jonathan Bernier to the team. The promise of the Kings who had his golden opportunity in Toronto, has not finished finding his place in Detroit and comes to complete a more than remarkable roster under sticks.

Defending

One more year, the team has been top5 in goals conceded. With this type of record, it is very difficult for positive balances to emerge at the end of the season. Fitzgerald tried it on Murray and Kulikov but neither of them worked. To do this, this year the team will have luxury reinforcements in defence. Ryan Graves, a fundamental piece in the last two good years of the Colorado Avalanche confirming its status. And the big move of the summer for these Devils with the acquisition of Dougie Hamilton. A suitor who had many cities offering him gold like the one he found in NJ.

A Subban-Hamilton or Graves-Hamilton pair meets expectationss of most teams in the league. Now it is necessary for Subban to be able to recover his best version (he has been away from her for two years) and Hamilton must continue adding in Power Play, a situation where the Devils only took advantage of 14.19% of occasions. Hamilton’s footprint should be noticeable and a lot in this regard. It has shown that it can be a good quarterback for plays in superiority.

Ty smith, relegated from a lot of responsibility and timing, can continue to offer a high level on top4 and Severson and Siegenthaler will fill in the missing gaps. Protect Blackwood and leave him few open shots it is a primary task for a defense that sees its level increased plausibly.

Lead

After the departure of Palmieri, Hughes and Hischier should assume the goals that the now player islander left when leaving New Jersey.

Everything points to the L1 will be made up of young people Kuokkanen, Hugues and Sharangovich, the latter being one of the surprises the previous year. A key addition to Hischier’s performance is Tomas Tatar. The discussed forward from the Montreal Canadiens He arrives to give that temple and choral game that he offers, added to the talent of Bratt, is what Hischier needs to exploit as a scorer. Without a doubt, this connection in L2 must be key for the Devils.

Zacha is called to break one of these years, but for now it will continue one step behind of the above. Versatile, and with the size necessary to play elite, must fill their gaps techniques with his risky game in which he goes all out to get the puck into the goal.

Nolan foote is another that has all the potential of the world but that he must improve his skating level to finish taking advantage of that innate scoring talent that he has in his hands.

A compensated attack, which with the arrival of Tatar raises the level of L2 and leaves remaining talent in the other lines. If Hughes does explode, the front row will be a lot of fun to watch, as well as very difficult to stop in the race. Ruff will have to play his tricks very well, because in the absence of superstars, the management of the 12 is good forwards on the whole.

Tomas Tatar – Nico Hischier – Jesper Bratt

Miles Wood – Pavel Zacha – Michael McCleod

Nola Foote – Jesper Boqvist – Andreas Johnsson
