The Board of Directors of the French Professional Football League (LFP) voted this Wednesday against the world football is played every two years because it would harm the domestic championships.

«The development of football does not happen only through the World Cup, it rests above all on the domestic championships,» the LFP said in a statement, in which it predicts «an irremediably negative impact» on them with the celebration of a world every two years.

The French clubs consider that this decision has been made by the FIFA «without consultation» and only in their own interest.

The extension of the international periods «would significantly disturb the continuity of the domestic championships and would cause the lack of interest of the fans,» they add.
