Against all odds, there will be Game 6 between Warriors and Grizzlies. Golden State had it in their power to close the series taking advantage of Ja Morant’s absence, but their loss in the fifth game means that they will have to play again in two days, which means that Steve Kerr hardly has time to overcome the protocols of the league against Covid-19. According to Anthony Slater, a journalist for The Athletic, the franchise has the feeling that the coach may not be ready for Game 6, which would make the San Francisco team face a crucial duel without their coach on the bench.
Kerr tested positive before Game 4, so in the last two games it has been Mike Brown who has had to lead the team. In the first of both, Golden State managed to add a victory that placed them with a favorable 3-1, but tonight they have been overwhelmed by Memphis in a duel in which they have lost by up to 55 points, missing the opportunity to close the tie smoothly and wait for a more rested rival.
All in all, Kerr’s loss is not yet 100% confirmed, although it is true that it seems very difficult to imagine him fully recovered between now and Friday. If his team manages to confirm the pass in Game 6, it is likely that he can already be prepared for the Conference Finals, although in the event that the series goes to a seventh game, perhaps the deadline is still short enough for him to be back in time.
