Raheem Sterling, who is on FC Barcelona’s agenda for the January market, has assured today that he is willing to leave Manchester City to have more minutes of play and confesses that he dreams of moving from England.
The winger, a starter in the English team with Gareth Southgate, has lost presence in Pep Guardiola’s City line-ups to the point that he has started only two of the seven games that the reigning Premier League champion has played so far. . It so happens that they have been the only two games that the ‘citizens’ have not won: defeat against Tottenham (1-0) on the opening day and 0-0 against Southampton.
«If there was an opportunity to go elsewhere, I would be open to it right now,» Sterling said today at the FT Business of Sport US Summit that has been held online.
«Soccer is the most important thing to me,» reflected Sterling. «As an English player, all I know is the Premier League and I always thought that one day I would love to play abroad and face this challenge,» he admitted. «I should actually be learning a few different languages. I quite like the French and Spanish accents.»
Sterling, 26, came to City in 2015 from Liverpool and his contract expires in 2023.
