The man of the moment in the Major Leagues has been persevering. He was selected by the Yankees in the 2013 Draft and in 2018 the Orioles took him in Rule 5, but he was returned to New York a year later.
He was traded to Seattle in November 2019 and became a free agent a year later. The Yankees re-signed him in January 2021. «I was drafted by the Yankees. My heart has always been here,» Cortes told reporters.

What is Néstor Cortés doing differently on the Yankees?
He has always been a contortionist and used a variety of arm angles, kicks, swinging movements and fast throws. But he now he has a greater knowledge of his repertoire and more confidence in himself. He no longer throws the curve and adopted a cutter, his main weapon, and his fastball has gained a couple of miles of speed.
