The forward of the Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo, backed coach Ralf Rangnick in his goal to do a good job at the Premier League club, but said the German needs time to assimilate his ideas and improve the team’s performance.
Rangnick was appointed until the end of the season after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking in November following a poor run of results and the player has responded to questions from the media about whether players are unhappy with his methods.
«Since he arrived he changed a lot of things,» Ronaldo told Sky Sports. «But he needs time to convey his ideas to the players. I think he will do a good job. We know that we are not playing in the best way, but we have many games to improve.»
«Since he arrived I think that in some points we are better. It is not so easy to change the mentality of the footballers and the way they play, the culture, the system.»
United suffered their first loss to Rangnick in last week’s 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers and are seventh in the Premier League with 31 points, in the middle of the season.
«I don’t accept that our mentality is less than being in the top three in the Premier League,» Ronaldo said. «I think to build good things, sometimes you have to destroy some things. So why not? New year, new life and I hope United can be at the level that the fans want. They deserve it.»
«We are capable of changing things now. I know the way, but I will not mention it here because I do not think it is ethical for me to say that. What I can say is that we can do better, all of us. I am here to try to win, to compete».
