Conte, to Arteta: «I hear him complain a lot…»

The coach of Tottenham Hotspur, Anthony Conte, urged Mikel Arteta to stop complaining and focus on his own team after the Arsenal manager criticized the referee following Thursday’s 3-0 loss, which cut his side’s lead in the race for the top four to just one point.

Arteta was annoyed when referee Paul Tierney awarded a penalty against him in the 22nd minute and then showed Rob Holding a second yellow for a second foul on Son Heung-min. “If I say what I think, they suspend me for six months,” Arteta said.

Conte, whose team won with a brace from Kane and a goal from Son, did not at all agree with the referee’s assessment made by Arteta. «Arteta is a really good coach. But he just started in this job and I think I hear him complain a lot. He needs to focus more on his team and not complain as much,» he said. And he added: «The red card for me was clear. Don’t forget that against Liverpool I didn’t say anything about what happened with Fabinho.»

The Italian hinted that it was unfair for Arsenal to ask to postpone the match due to COVID-19 despite the team only having one positive case. «They only had one player with COVID. If you want to complain, we also have many reasons to complain,» Conte said.
