The San Francisco Giants have traded infielder Mauricio Dubon to the Houston Astros for minor league catcher Michael Papierski, both teams said Saturday.
Dubón has a .239/.245/.391 offensive line with two home runs and eight RBIs in 49 plate appearances so far in the 2022 season. The Honduran is a player who also offers a lot of defensive versatility, as he can play various infield positions and also center field.
The 27-year-old had come to San Francisco in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2019 in exchange for pitchers Drew Pomeranz and Ray Black.

The Astros have had to deal with injuries to Jose Altuve and Jeremy Pena, so they were looking for ways to get more depth and replacement at shortstop and second base.

Michael Papierski for his part is a 26-year-old player who has never appeared in the Major Leagues. The 2017 ninth-round draft pick posted a .211/.324/.278 slash line with one home run and 15 RBIs in 26 games for Triple-A Sugar Land this season.
