Alex Rodríguez is interested in buying the Miami Marlins

Alex Rodriguez is interested in buying the Miami Marlins if the team is put up for sale, reported Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

While the team isn’t officially for sale, Heyman notes in his report that rumors have increased as Marlins owner Bruce Sherman and his associates are apparently quite upset with a balance sheet showing negative money balances since they bought the equipment. Jeffrey Loria sold the franchise for $1.2 billion in 2017.

Recall that Derek Jeter was part of Sherman’s group that acquired the franchise, but the former New York Yankees figure left the team this year due to differences over the direction the organization is taking.

This would not be the first time that Alex Rodríguez has sought to acquire an MLB franchise. A while back he and his then-fiancée, Jennifer Lopez, finished second in the bid to buy the New York Mets, losing out to Steve Cohen’s $2.45 billion deal.

Another detail to keep in mind is that in the Marlins is his nephew, Joe Dunand, who recently hit a home run in his first turn in the Major Leagues.

Alex Rodríguez is currently a minority owner of the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves.
