Netflix renews its internal strategy to achieve excellence: «Not everyone is going to like everything on our service»

Netflix continues to make changes to recover from the recent hard hit. After leaking a plan as logical as it is obvious, hora has updated its corporate culture memorandum for the first time in five years with two especially important changes, the first emphasizing being more responsible when spending and the second pointing out that it will not censor certain voices or works, even those that some of its workers do not like, to achieve excellence.

The changes

This last movement seems a direct reaction to the controversy provoked by the last special of David Chappelleas the new section dedicated to artistic expression points out that «Not everyone is going to like or agree with everything on our service. Although each title is different, we approach them based on the same set of principles : We support the artistic expression of the creators we choose to work with; we program for a diversity of audiences and tastes; and we let viewers decide what’s appropriate for them, rather than Netflix censoring certain artists or voices.»

Come on Netflix wants to reach all kinds of publicso there may be specific titles that make a certain sector uncomfortable, but the platform’s new strategy goes further, to the point of little less than requiring its workers to accept this or leave:

As employees, we support the principle that Netflix offers a diversity of stories, even if we find some titles contrary to our personal values. Depending on your position, you may have to work on titles that you perceive as harmful. If you find it difficult to support our breadth of content, Netflix may not be the best place for you.

In addition, the company also clarifies that «we act honorably even when no one is looking» or that «our members want to see a variety of stories and people on screen, and our company and leadership should reflect that diversity», further committing to double any donation that one of your workers makes to some kind of charity.

The big question now is whether some workers will prefer to leave the company in the face of this internal movement, and also how this need to «spend money wisely» will affect it. Fewer big productions and more cheap titles?
