Ellen Pompeo has repeated on numerous occasions that she wants them to put an end to fiction.
Once again, the series Grey’s Anatomy go back to renew for a new season, in this case its installment number 19. Its creator, Shonda Rhimes, has happily announced it. However, this news may not have been received with the same joy for all who are part of the long-lived medical fiction. Its protagonist, Ellen Pompeo is one of them.
Love dramas, scary medical cases, comings and goings of old characters … Grey’s Anatomy is a mountain of emotions, and despite its long stay on the air, its fans remain loyal to it. Among the seven dramas that ABC has broadcast this fall, fiction, despite having suffered a sharp decline in its audience, still ranks number 1 in the demographic band and only remains behind The Good Doctor in total audience.
With such results, the American network has announced that Pompeo and the current showrunner of the series, Krista Vernoff, have signed new agreements with the ABC Signature studio, making it possible for the successful medical drama to continue for at least one more season. According to ABC, the 19th season «explore the ever-expanding world of modern medicine through the eyes of beloved returning characters and new«.
This seems to contradict Pompeo’s words a month ago to Insider: «I’ve been trying to convince everyone that [Grey] it should end. I feel like I’m the only naive one who keeps saying: ‘But what’s the story going to be, what story are we going to tell?’ And everyone says, «Who cares, Ellen? Makes a ton of dollars.»
On the contrary, Vernoff has highlighted his enthusiasm by stating the following: «I am grateful to our partners at Disney and ABC for allowing us to tell bold stories with real impact.«The creator of the series, could not be less and claims to be» excited «to» continue telling the stories of Meredith, Bailey, Richard and all the other doctors at Gray Sloan Memorial for another season. This is a true testament to Krista, the cast, crew, and all the writers who keep audiences on the edge of their seats week after week. And it wouldn’t be possible without the generations of incredible fans who have supported Grey’s Anatomy for so many years. «
The current season, 18, will resume broadcast next February 24th, after having had to delay the production of the series until January 12 due to the wave of infections driven by variant of Covid Omicron.
